Designer, CALVIN LUO, hosted his Spring/Summer 2017 collection at Skylight Clarkson Square for New York Fashion Week. His collection features both men's and women's pieces exhibiting ready-to-wear structured and geometric silhouettes, in a creative combination of contrasting colors, patterns, textures and finishes. To marry in with the predominately pastel color palette of his Spring/Summer collection, Calvin requested for the female models' hair and makeup to exhibit an attitude of rebellion. This choice perfectly illuminated and embellished the contrast living within the collection which livened Calvin's runway. For the male models, Calvin desired a more sophisticated hairstyle and softer shapes which balanced the contemporary architecture and patterns within his men's duds.
Calvin chose the Matthew Curtis North American Hair Team, known for its precision and accuracy with strong details, to design and deliver his vision of electrifying runway hairstyles. Once again, Matthew Curtis chose for his North American Team to be co-lead and directed by RUUT Salon Master Stylist & Runway Stylist, Jamie Hollis and Freelance Runway & Editorial Stylist Michelle Swiney. Jamie and Michelle, designed the looks for the female models with unpredictable details living within this signature, and almost "explicit" look, of trend-setting cornrows. As we've seen braids becoming more relevant within mainstream hairstyles, the bar is set high for runway stylists to deliver braids in a new perspective, which Jamie and Michelle undeniably delivered. They explained the intentions and blueprints of the styles, then demoed and directed the team to execute the looks for both the female and male models. Using Design Essentials Haircare's brand new braiding products and cremes, the team was blazing through the intricate designed cornrows on the female models, which included both structured order and winding directions with overlapping trails of braids. Using Design Essentials Haircare's styling foam and hair spray, the male models' looks were constructed with volume and definition, and a deeper side part which engaged into a structured "kick".
Again, among Matthew's North American Team members were our RUUT Salon Owners, Nicole Brunz Hunt and Maria Ferrer Riggert. As prep-time backstage was of the essence, Jamie and Michelle delegated focuses to the team members. Nicole's focus was assigned to the voguish braiding of the female models, as Maria was assigned to the execution of the dapper hairstyles of the male models.
The final looks raged down the runway unfolding Calvin's vision of ripe Spring Summer trends.
